Temporary Local Rule to Protect Bluebells

Bluebells are a protected species in the UK. From 20 April 2024 until notified a local rule is in force to protect them from damage.

The Rule:

Holes 4 & 13 – a single drop zone

  1. If a ball is in the penalty area to the left or right of holes 4 & 13, including when it is known or virtually certain that a ball that has not been found came to rest in the penalty area, the player may:
  • Take stroke-and-distance relief under Rule 17.1d(1), adding one penalty stroke, or
  • Drop the original ball or another ball in the dropping zone located adjacent to the tree, to the right of the bridge and adding one penalty stroke.

The player may not:

  • Take lateral relief at the point of entry to this penalty area.
  • Play a ball from within the penalty area.

Holes 6 & 15 – three drop zones

  1. If a ball is in the penalty area to the right of holes 6 & 15, including when it is known or virtually certain that a ball that has not been found came to rest in the penalty area, the player may:
  • Take stroke-and-distance relief under Rule 17.1d(1), adding one penalty stroke, or
  • Drop the original ball or another ball in a dropping zone no nearer the hole from the point of entry, by adding one penalty stroke.

The player may not:

  • Take lateral relief at the point of entry to this penalty area.
  • Play a ball from within the penalty area.

Free relief is allowed when the ball is in the general area and there is interference by an abnormal course condition.

The nearest point of complete relief should be identified and a ball must be dropped in and come to rest in the relief area.

The relief area is one club-length from the reference point, is not nearer to the hole than the reference point and must be in the general area.

When taking relief, the player must take complete relief from all interference by the abnormal course condition.

Holes 3 and 12

You may know that maintaining the condition of hole 3 has been a real challenge recently. We hope to be able to cut the grass in this area and fully open every hole. In the meantime, for casual rounds, a temporary tee is in use on the plateau at the start of the 3rd fairway.
