2020 Season Competition Update

Dear Member

Over the past few weeks we have trialled a number of new protocols in order for us to play golf as safely as possible. These, we are pleased to say, have been successful.

In order to adhere to the social distancing requirements, it was essential that the pace of play was kept to the timings indicated on the scorecard. Almost every single group in each and every competition has completed their rounds in four hours or under.
We are now confident that we can move on to the next stage in our season – competing for our major trophies.

The men’s weekend competition calendar until the end of September will be posted on the calendar section of the website, the dates are also shown below.

4th July Scratch Championship & Handicap Cup
11th July The Evans Bowl
18th July Stableford
25th July The Thompson Shield
1st August Stableford
8th August Presidents Cup
15th August Stableford
22nd August Rabbits Captain’s Day (Rabbits Section Championship)
29th August Golden Jubilee Pairs
5th & 6th Sept Crow Nest Cup Rd 1 & 2
12th Sept Captain’s Day
19th Sept The Harrison Anniversary Trophy
26th Sept Stableford

This coming weekend will be the Scratch Championship (open to golfers with handicaps between 0 & 7) and the Handicap Cup (open to golfers with handicaps between 8 and 15 inclusive). These competitions will follow the traditional medal format.

There will be a separate competition for golfers with handicaps 16+ which will be a maximum score medal. If you reach the maximum score of 5 over the gross par on a hole, you must pick up your ball and mark the maximum score on your scorecard.

Please book either in person or by telephone with the Professional’s Shop from Monday 29th June at 12pm.

Scorecards.

We politely remind you that scorecards will continue to be marked by one person for each group. A verbal confirmation of scores during and at the end of the round is acceptable, a second signature is not required at this time. Please take a legible photograph of the card, showing player names, handicaps, scores and signature and send them via text, email or WhatsApp to the addresses shown on the scorecard box outside of the Clubhouse. Please send these before midnight on the day of the competition.

Recently, there have been several cards not returned. This has required handling of the scorecards in order to process them. Whilst precautions are taken in the handling of the cards, it is an unnecessary risk and therefore sanctions will have to be in place for future competitions.

Crow Nest Cup.

A decision was taken earlier this month to temporarily change the qualification criteria for the Crow Nest Cup to the top 20% of finishers in competitions. Due to the unprecedented number of players in our recent competitions, this temporary change will revert back to the top 10% upon reaching 90 qualifiers.

Whilst we are all looking forward to seeing the Clubhouse back open in the next week, the decision has been taken that we won’t be presenting trophies on the day of the competition for the remainder of the season.
All major trophies will be presented at Presentation Night, the date of which will be confirmed soon.

Best regards,

Steve Yendley
