I feel very honoured, proud and privileged to have been elected Captain of our growing Seniors’ section. I hope that I can carry on the excellent work started by David Ramsden, our first ever Seniors’ Captain, in 2001 R.I.P and continued by his successors. I will give the role my very best efforts as we endeavor to retain the very best of our traditions while continuing to move the section forward.
We pride ourselves on being inclusive and make every effort to integrate and make new members welcome be they new to golf or old hands at this wonderful game.
Many of our section enjoy playing with the CROWS who meet every Monday, Wednesday and Friday around 08.30 for 14 holes of friendly yet competitive golf. It’s essentially social golf with its own unique handicapping system where a draw is made each time providing a variety of company. If you’ve not tried it I recommend that you give it a whirl. You will not be disappointed.
All our members are encouraged to play in the Club’s competitions but we also have our own Seniors’ competitions, including the Seniors’ Championship and Seniors’ Knock-out, both of which are Board competitions. Other Seniors’ competitions take place throughout the golfing season.
We run two “Away Days” each year and play for the George & Mary Anderson Trophy and the Jim Conlan Cup; the latter being a joint trip with the Ladies Section.
The opportunity to play inter club golf across the locality is provided by the Elderly Gentlemen’s Golfing Society (EGGS) and the ultra competitive Lawrence Batley League and knock-out competition.
We run our immensely popular Seniors’ Open each year and organise the equally popular Club’s AM/AM/AM/AM competition.
Finally may I wish my Vice-Captain, John Watson a successful year and say how much I am looking forward to working with him this year.
