To be invited to captain the senior section of Crow Nest Park GC for 2018/19 is a great privilege for me and an honour to accept this role.
I hope that I can carry on the excellent work of all our previous captains, If only with the willingness and enthusiasm the role demands. Alongside a very capable and knowledgeable committee to help and support me with this responsibility.
The seniors strive to make all our golf enjoyable and friendly along with a measure of competiveness for those needing that competitive edge. Our thoroughly enjoyable “Crows” meet on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings for 14 holes where even those without a CONGU handicap can strive for team success along with a modest individual prize.
Please make an effort to join us around 8:15 for the draw and make new friends as well as maintaining existing friendships. Although the seniors have the responsibility for organising this. All club members are welcome to come and have a game. You will be made very welcome by us all.
All our section members are encouraged to play in the Club’s various competitions. We also run our own Seniors’ competitions, including the Seniors’ Championship and Seniors’ Knock Out. Along with the Titus Salt Trophy awarded for the best aggregate score over the season. This year we have instituted a Veterans Trophy for players over 70 years of age to compete for. We run two “Away Days” each year and play for the George & Mary Anderson Trophy and the Jim Conlan Cup; the latter being a joint trip with the Ladies Section. This year`s locations are Barnsley and Normanton.
On a fun note we arrange to play some Monday competitions with a variety of formats and some unusual scoring methods to add to the enjoyment.
The immensely popular EGGS ( Elderly Gentlemen`s Golf Society) competitions provide competitive social golf with several neighbouring clubs.
This year our Lawrence Batley team will be cared for by Alan Goodman who will undoubtedly want to try and improve on last year`s success.
We run our very popular Seniors’ Open each year, with record numbers in 2017 and organise the equally popular Club’s AM/AM/AM/AM competition,
Finally, may I thank our outgoing captain John Watson for inviting me to succeed him as senior captain. We look forward to representing you, in what we both feel is one of the best supported senior sections in the area.
Have a great golfing year down here at Crow Nest.
