Crow Nest Park Golf Club
SENIORS SECTION 2008/2009

The Seniors Section continues to be extremely active.
We have four competitions specifically for senior golfers spread throughout the golfing season, highlighted by the Seniors Championship, an 18 hole medal event played in August.
The section fields a team in the Lawrence Batley League, where our opponents in 2008 will be Calverley, Elland, Hebden Bridge Huddersfield, Low Laithes West Bradford and Woodsome Hall.

We also undertake friendly fixtures on a home and away basis, our opponents being Crossland Heath, Queensbury, Ryburn, West Bradford, Outlane, Longley Park, Calverley and Bradford Moor.

The sections' main recreational golf is played on Mondays, Wednesdays (when there is no club competition) and Fridays, the tee being reserved from 0900hrs.

All Club members are welcome to join us on these occasions - senior status not being a pre-requisite.

SECTION OFFICIALS 2008/2009
Captain - Richard Smith
Vice Captain - Brendan Fernandez
Treasurer - Dennis Hitchcock

The League team got off to a sluggish start to the new season when, on Friday 18th April, we were beaten 6-2 at Calverley G.C.
Our only winners were Martin Firth and Roy Harrison although two other matches went to the 17th & 18th holes respectively.

The second week of the season saw our teams continue to struggle. On Wednesday 23 April we were defeated 8-4 in a friendly at Queensbury Golf Club. To be fair, their team had a rejuvenated look about it after a few years when they had struggled even to raise a team. Our only winners were Alan Haley & Dennis Hitchcock whilst the Brian Turner / Jeff Walker and Brendan Fernandez / Peter Patchett pairings managed halved matches.

On Friday 25 April we were disappointed to lose 5-3 at home to Elland in the Lawrence Batley League. This time the only winners were the partnership of Bill Binns and debutant Brian Turner. Dennis Hitchcock was again to the fore, some impressive putting helping to secure a halved match in the company of Richard Smith. This particular result was a little disappointing, the pair having been 2 up with 2 to play.

Week 3 saw the team gain revenge over Queensbury in the return friendly match at Crow Nest Park on Wednesday.
In the Lawrence Batley League match on Friday 2 May, however, the team went down 6-2 at home to Hebden Bridge. Bill Binns and Brian Turner again won their match convincingly but the other three games all resulted in 1 hole defeats.
